Thanks to everyone who has replied to my post reference the pitfalls of obtaining birth, marriage, and death certificates in England. I just wanted to make the point that telling someone that all they have to do is to obtain the certificate is a bit of an understatement. As it can be difficult to determine which is the right one to obtain.
By the way I have a birth certificate for a Louisa - daughter of Edward and Louisa Jones formerly Jones - Louisa born March 25th, 1878 - Father Labourer - Lambeth - Brixton, County of Surrey
Address was 176 Mayard Rd, East Brixton

Hi Donna
I think most of us have a few incorrect certificates, it is just part of researching especially when
you have common names. Sometimes it is just a process of elimination. I still cannot find my
grt/grt/grandmother's death, but have certificates for a number of people of the same name.
Best of luck

Just another item to bring forward - Obtaining birth, death, marriage
certs in England. I know that there is a process of obtaining them easily
once you have the right year, qtr etc. The only problem that I encounter is
that there is no way of knowing that you're obtaining the correct
certificate as there isn't enough information on the index. In researching
my father's family for instance - there could be as many of 10 names on the
applicable index that could fit. All in the same location. If I ordered
all certificates then it would be a total waste of money that I can't
afford. Does anyone out there have any suggestions that would make this
task a bit easier. Telling someone that they need to order the birth cert
etc isn't always the best answer.
As I live in Barrie, Ontario, Canada I don't mind helping with any
research requests for Canada.
