Subject: [Ess] marriage question

I ought to know the answers to these, but I was watching clouds out the classroom window and only listened with half an ear....
when a man marries a woman, isn't it usually in her parish?...
is it also true that if a man leaves his faith he marries in his wife's faith? would that work at the turn of the 19th century?
if so, I MIGHT have stumbled across my Smith ancestry...maybe. this one's still uncertain, but things do seem to fit...if the one I think is my 3x great grandmother married in her own faith, then there's one more possible clue that may lead me to her ancestry, finally....
thanks for your thoughts...
Cornelia
