I would add to Andy's comment, that so far I have found marriage and birth
indexes on FreeBMD up to 1919.
I did a bit of transcribing when time permitted a couple of years back, and
found it very interesting, not too time consuming and you didn't have to
have a degree in computer science to make a worthwhile contribution. It's a
small gesture by way of repaying all the very kind help received on the
message lists these past years.
For us with little patience I checked the current availability of the GRO
images on FreeBMD which also available for "free" viewing and their coverage
seems to go to 1935!
Regarding the latest paid for databases introduced to Ancestry are a
comprehensive listing from HO11 for convicts transported to Australia and
elsewhere.
