Subject: [Ess] Surprise move to Bucks

Hello listers,
Re the earlier enquiry about people moving in the eighteenth century.
My yeoman ancestor, Thomas Chandler, was a sub-tenant on the Moulsham
estate in Chelmsford, apparently for a long time, but suddenly in
1813 moved his family to Chalfont St Giles in Buckinghamshire. I know
the Moulsham estate was going downhill but why move so far away?
I have studied him for years and still know nothing about his
antecedents and have never found anything to suggest why he moved so
far from Chelmsford. Please can anyone suggest any connection between
these places? Why would someone move so far? You would have to know
there was somewhere to rent before you left. I can find no family
link with Bucks before they moved there.
Gillian.
