Turning off your computer should not effect your data in any way (ensure you
have saved any documents you may have been editing before shutting it down.)

If you are going away for more than a few days while subscribed to a mailing
list like Essex-UK then you run the risk of filling up your mailbox. Most
e-mail mailboxes have a limit and when this limit is reached subsequent
messages will be bounced. After four message are bounced back to the List
Server (the computer that runs the mailing list) will automatically
unsubscribe you from the list. Recently this has been less of a problem,
because mailboxes have much larger limits. However, if you have a low limit
on your mailbox or are planning to be away for more than a few weeks, you
might like to unsubscribe from the list for the time you are away. You can
catch-up on the messages you didn't receive while you are unsubscribed (or
while your mailbox was full) by looking at the threaded archives at <

Elmo.
