I would agree with both of Colleen's thoughts; 16-20 miles by horse
would be an unexceptional journey, and the round trip by boat would have
been even more so, at least making up for the extra distance. Offhand, I
think I remember finding a PRYOR fisherman's family in Burnham at the
censuses, the head giving his birthplace as Portsmouth (or somewhere
like that) - it only took a moment to postulate the most likely reason
for his settling on the Essex coast!
