Once again, Essex was in the forefront
One example of the countless ways in which plastics changed our lives in the
50s. Goods made in pastic became hugely fashionable. The cheapness,
flexibility and colour range of plastics opened up such a huge range of
practical and creative possibilities for the people of the 50s onwards. Mass
production & marketing of them made what was previously the sole preserve of
the rich - freedom of choice - available to millions of us, albeit that much
of the stuff was incredibly cheap rubbish!

How well I remember those poppets. They must be a collector's item by now -
if any have survived. Didn't know they were probably made by a toy
manufacturer. I think my mum had strands of two or three different colours,
and being
very fashion-conscious <g> I used to spend ages re-arranging them into
different patterns.
Thanks for the memories Colleen.
