Hi,
I found a GODFREY GAYLOR b. abt 1811 Roydon Essex on the 1871 census living at 73 Street Stanstead Herts - my gt gt grandfather and his father both named ALFRED GAYLOR both born in Cambridge 1844 and 1865 respectively - are living at 76 Street Stanstead. There are two possibilities - It could be a coincidence that two different families with the same name are living near each other or they are related.
There is no information on the I.G.I for Godfrey - the first recorded information I can find on him is on the 1851 census where Godfrey is living with his wife Maria. I've also found a marriage for a GODFREY GAYLOR and MARIA BURGESS 1832 Bermondsey but I'm not sure if I have the right couple.
By the 1871 census the two Alfred's are back living in Cambridge, Godfrey is still living in Stanstead now a widower, he's living with two grandchildren both born in Roydon Essex (according to the census) they are ELIZABETH SPELLING b.1858 registration district Epping and CHARLES SPELLING b. 1862, there maybe other children, until I send for a birth certificates to find the parents I've no way of checking.
If anyone is connected to these families I'd be pleased to hear from you - if possible could someone has access to parish records could they help or perhaps help with the 1841 census - Origins hasn't covered Herts yet.
TIA Best Wishes Yvonne Hills SWansea S.Wales U.K
