I understand it is still a rule in the Church of England that the font must
have a cover. Ours at St.Stephen's ( a medieval font with saints carved
round it , heads all removed at the Reformation) hadn't a cover and we were
instructed to have one put on it. It's a beautiful oak one but I have no
idea whether it has a lock. I must ask the vicar or churchwardens some time.
How interesting about Archduke Franz Ferdinand's father catching typhoid
after drinking unboiled Jordan water. How old would he have been in 1914 if
he had lived? Of course he might have been the one to visit Sarajevo as he
would have been the heir to Emperor Franz, so the war might still have
happened.
