Having seen a sample of waterr from the River Jordan, I doubt that - holy or
not - it did a great deal for the infants baptised with it. I've had gravy with
less brown matter floating in it!
As for the habit of making offerings to water (the most famous swords seem to be
bronze age, though I'm sure the Anglo-Saxon's did it too), I bet that no-one on
this list can, hand on heart, say that they have NEVER thrown a coin into a well!
