Thank you most sincerely to both Diane and Tim for their searches on this.

How WELTON came to be MUTTIT is anyone's guess but, as you say, all other details are right and it helps to have Mary WELTON (aunt) as Housekeeper at the end, presumably because Mary the wife had died.

I really must learn to think more 'outside the square', not just look for something like the right surname.
