Hi , new to this list and am hoping to find someone with an interest or
connection to the Cranwells of Chrishall.
So far I have James Cranwell , b c 1790, in the 1841 census , lab,
and ominously there is an N in born in county column . He has a wife Sarah
, who may or may not be the Sarah Jeffry married Chrishall 1813. James and
(a) Sarah have John b C 1816, William b C 1819 , then an odd gap to Jane b C
1829, Allen b C 1832, Fanny b C 1835, Betsy bC 1835 .
My friends descend from William b 1819, who m Jane dau of Thomas and
Susannah (Cane) Woods , marr C 1842, and had Martha, George, Mela , Uraina,
Mary Ann, Selina, James, Thomas, Oswald, William and Emma between 1844 and
1867.
Thomas b 1845 married Emma ? and they had Albert , Ada, William ,
Alice and Harold , and moved from Chrishall to Marnham , Notts, and Carlton
le Moorland, Lincs, before ending up in W Norfolk !!!
The above is from the very excellent Chrishall village site , and
from the 1841, 61, 71, 81, 91 and 01 census. I have been onto the Essex
RO site this am and see there are wills in three volumes, and also that the
Chrishall registers seem not to be copied in any way or in any format ?????
Thanks for your time reading this, and if anything rings bells , or
you can point me in the direction of finding James bapt 1790ish , would be
most grateful . Thanks , Elizabeth
