Subject: DOE of Stoke and ARGENT & BOREHAM marriage

Hi

I'm new to this list. My main interest at present is in my DOE ancestors
who lived at Steeple Bumpstead or at Stoke by Clare just over the border in
Suffolk.

A stone's throw you might say - but I'm sure nobody would throw a stone at
Essex.

I have a particular problem at the moment tracing my ggg grandmother Ann
Argent who may be a woman of Essex.

The Banns for the wedding of Stephen BOREHAM of Haverhill and Ann ARGENT
were read at Haverhill on 6 Jan, 2 Feb and 9 Feb 1766 according to the
parish records. But unfortunately the parish of the bride was
unreadable.

It could have been Hemstead, Henstead or Halstead - or something else
entirely. It could be Suffolk or Essex - or Cambridge or anywhere.

The marriage did not take place in Haverhill though the subsequent children,
including my gg grandmother Elizabeth BOREHAM, were baptised Haverhill.

A search of IGI and Boyd's marriage index draws a blank.

If anyone recognises Ann or has links to the DOEs of Stoke or Steeple
Bumpstead, I'd be glad to hear from you.

If you have been, thanks for reading this.

Bob Doe
