Another Essex Benson here (not connected to Bob unfortunately). I have a
John Benson born c. 1828 in Little Wakering. He married a Mary Ann in
Middlesex and had all their children there, and the line continues in the
Tower Hamlets area. John was a coal miner/porter.
I do have one 'mariner' among the Bensons, my John's son John Jr. was a
lighterman.
Curiously enough, I think they must have been poor folk, as they were living
at '6 Boarded Entry' in 1841, and I think one of the sisters was residing at
'Labour in Vain Street'. Talk about interesting!
