Subject: a conundrum...
Date: Mon, 9 May 2005 23:43:04 -0700

my 3x great grandmothereludes me yet, though other lines go far back in time
well beyond her....read through the whole query to see what the conundrum
is. first, I am listing the facts as I have them, then the rest of the
conundrum...

Hannah Smith (? see below)
b. 12 Dec. 1785 of Colchester, England (tombstone)
chr. unknown
d. 30 Aug 1874 Navarre, Stark, Ohio, USA (tombstone)

I have her on her marriage record (the f's in odd places to note the old
tall s. presume the Bo is Botolph's, where their first child was born? or is
it supposed to be Ba for Bachelor? that's no a.);

No 126 Joseph Cross of this Parifh Bo??? & Hannah Smith of this Parifh

This Marriage was folemnized between Us

Thomas Hoosom???
but the kind soul who sent me a xerox of this marriage failed to mention
which parish it was in, and never answered any of my greatful emails to
them.

does anyone have access to marriage records who can tell me which parish and
county/shire they were married in?
they aren't in either Pallot's, ('though their eldest child is), Boyd's or
the Vicar General's marriage license allegations.

Hannah, though she died after Ohio started keeping vital records, has no
death record, and left no will. we have no family papers of her, not even a
photo of either her or Joseph.

with that aside, I still have a conundrum.

in The History of Stark Co. (Ohio) biography on the Becks (a son in law of
hers was a Beck), mention of Hannah staits her surname is Miller. a family
letter from a cousin to my grandmother gives her surname as Thomson.

she may actually have a death record, but for reasons unknown to me, Ohio
does not have a statewide index of deaths. I've checked Stark Co. and don't
know where to check next. most of her children were in Stark Co. at the time
of her death, but two were in PA. I've checked these, to no avail. one was
in Carondelet, Missouri, but had seperated himself from the family. so all
the possible leads fell apart, with no trace of her in any of these states.

I wonder if these different surnames keep me from finding her in parish
records? can anyone help me find her? I realize Hannah and Anna are
interchangeable. any ideas?
