My ancestor William BROOM of Colchester changed from being listed in Kelly's
as a tailor in the 1870s to a Master Tailor in the 1880s.

Would there be a formal record anywhere of this change? Would he have had
to join a guild, or could he just `rebrand' himself?

Would a Master Tailor be someone who made clothes for people and a tailor be
someone who did running repairs on clothes?
