Can anyone tell me which police an immigrant would go to in the 1838-32
period in order to register under the 1792 Immigration Act's requirement that all
immigrants were to register with the police? Would an immigrant report to the
police near the boat he/she arrived in? Would it be the police near his/her
initial lodgings?
Whichever the case, does anyone know if such records are available to the
public, and if so where? I am beginning to think that such a record is the only
probable remaining indication of where my ggrandmother came from in
Schleswig-Holstein, around 1830.
Gratefully,
Bill Jones.
