On the subject of disclosure, I think the truth should always be told. I
had an example of this in my own family tree of very recent times. My
uncle's youngest son has been a total worry to the family for years, he wont
go out, wont mix with other people or talk much to his parents even, and has
even talked about suicide, he just stays in his room, totally into himself.
Whilst doing the tree I came across one branch of this line three
generations back where three of the children ended up in a lunatic asylum,
by telling my relatives about this, it made them understand the problem more
and realize that it wasnt any of their fault or the way they had brought him
up to make him turn out this way, especially when their other three children
were perfectly normal and leading very rewarding and happy lives.

I feel that people are becoming too cocooned and too scared to know the
truth about themselves these days, after all what was so terrible about
having a child outside of marriage, as far as I can see it was almost the
norm back in the 19th century, a kind of "try before you buy" policy on the
part of the men, at least (most of the time) the men ended up marrying the
women they made pregnant, or at least they did in my family, whereas today a
lot of the teenage pregnancies are just a way of getting council housing,
and blokes just wanting a bit of something after a few pints at the pub -
although from some of the programmes I have seen on the tv it looks like
the girls arent much better.

That's my take on the subject anyway.
