Assuming that the book (whicever one it is) is still in copyright (which
expires 70 years after the death of the author), then I should think that
limited extracts of a couple of words each would not cause an issue, though
wholesale replication of complete index entries, whatever that may mean,
might arouse controversy. The best bet is probably to deliberately exclude
some of the index entry you are passing on, but to tell the recipient which
book (and maybe page) the entry is in so that they can buy the book (in
theory) to see the entry for themselves. For example, you might exclude
parents' names, or months and days from the dates.
