Hi all,
I can only think of Pipey Pooly (Mersea), Gummy Spicket (who was probably nicknamed because he had lost his teeth but still 'speeked it', rather than had Spicket as his surname) and Daisy-Picker Went who was fond of taking girls to the meadows!!!!! I refuse to say what place he was from.
As my surviving family consists of myself and my four children I do not have to be concerned about offending an 'older generation', so I believe in researching 'warts and all'. The more 'skeletons in the cupboard' the better I like it. Sadly, I have only found one so far. I will keep looking.
I am looking through the Essex 1841 at the moment. Anyone requiring a look-up contact me off-list please.
Good hunting,
John
