Greetings, Tony,
I've recently discovered that one can get the £ sign on our computer by
pressing and holding down the Alt key while typing 156 on the numerical
keypad (the one that is separate from the main keyboard). The site
www.asciitable.com gives you all sorts of other goodies too - I some of
them very useful, especially ½ (hold down Alt and type 171), ¼ (hold down
Alt and type 172) and ° (hold down Alt and type 248)
