I am researching my wife's Belgian ancestry and the family name is
GENIJN / GENYN / JENNIJN plus other variations
I have them back to the 1500s in Belgium (Klein-Brabant) and they seemed
to have just appeared from nowhere. It was suggested to me that during
the reign of Henry VIII and the suppression of the Roman Catholics in
Cornwall and Essex that some JENNING(S) folks fled to Europe (there was
no Belgium at that time) and this could be the start of this line of my
wife's family
in this area.
Has anyone ever heard of any other families fleeing from Essex to Europe
to flee the persecution?
