It may be strictly off topic, but I still sympathise with anyone who is
suffering over the loss or illness of a pet. Researching my family, I am
hard pressed to have found photos of relatives (except weddings) without a
much loved dog or cat by their side or on their knee. Most of my ancestors
were agricultural workers, and are mostly photographed working with their
shire horses or a herd of cattle. The animals they worked with day by day
were part of their lives and our heritage, and not entirely irrelevant to
our study of their lives and history.
Anyway, a person who loves animals cannot be entirely bad.
