Hello,
According to the 1881 Census, Daniel DIXEY the son was born in Maldon,
Essex, as you say, in 1855. By 1881 he was working as a cabinet maker and
living at 22 Navarre Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, with his family. His wife
was Phoebe, aged 24, born at Kirton, Suffolk. They had 3 children (though
of course they may have gone on to have more after 1881), all born in
Ipswich: Daniel, aged 3, Emma, aged 2, and George, aged 11 months.
There are several DIXEYs on the 1861 Census Index for the Registration
District of Maldon, but none of them called Daniel, so it may be that he
moved to Suffolk with his parents as a young boy.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
David Lamb (Paignton, Devon, UK)
