Hello,

Although I am not researching that name (at least not yet), I do know that
John KENDALL (1726-1815), a Quaker who lived in Colchester, Essex,
established some almshouses which still exist in Colchester under the name
of Kendall Terrace. However, KENDALL is a fairly common surname, so John
may not be related to your KENDALLs. The 1881 Census lists 147 KENDALLs in
Essex, with 47 of those living in the Hedinghams (Castle Hedingham and Sible
Hedingham). The others seem spread across the county, from the borders with
London and Suffolk to the coast.

One minor point is that English county names, unlike those in the US, don't
include the word "county", so it is "Essex" not "Essex County". The one
exception to this is County Durham.

Regards,
David Lamb (Paignton, Devon, UK)
