Hi Bill,
The British Parliament outlawed the slave trade in 1807. The campaign to abolish the trade was led by members of the humanitarian Clapham sect.. A squadron of Royal Navy ships were deployed to patrol the West African coast and seize slave ships, but slavery itself was not banned in Britain and its colonies until 1834.

I was not aware of slaves in England, was this common?
