Hello List,

I am not at all sure if this is the same Rev. Charles L'Oste but he has a
very unusual name if there are two of them! However the ages do not fit
with Karen below if it is my Rev. gentleman!

My Rev. Charles Frderick L'Oste apparently was born January 9th 1829 and was
educated at Louth Grammar School (where 20 years earlier Tennyson had been a
pupil) under the same flogging Master Rev. J. Waite. Apparently my Rev.
Charles L'Oste thrived under these disciplinary conditions! Went to Corpus
Christie College Cambridge but preferred to be a free lance and after four
years went down without taking a degree. He was then Master of Bury St.
Edmunds.

He was impractical but full of kindliness to his fellow men and had wide
interests. He held scholastic posts rather than pastoral. His interests
were wide, Shakespeare, the stage, mesmerism and spiritualism(which he
abandoned from conscientious motives )!!

He enjoyed deep sea fishing!
When quite an old man he armed himself with the Encyclopaedia Britannica and
the Historian's History of the world bought a house and furniture and
without any legal agreement handed them over to some friends on condition
they boarded and kept him!

He retired in 1914.Died in 1935 in Tasmania

What do you think about him being the same person?

If you want any more particulars let me know.

Colleen ,his poetry is a bit boring but have it here.
