Pubby's right (who could doubt it? :-) but I have seen the spelling
"Coggershall" even on official documents. But of course, as we have to
remind ourselves constantly, consistency in spelling is comparatively recent
thing. Of course the correct modern spelling of the place name is
"Coggeshall". (By the way, I remember when I was a music teacher at Stanway
Comprehensive School coming across a folk-song called "A Coggeshall Job",
and the book it was in gave an explanation of the term "A Coggeshall Job" -
I don't really remember it, but I think it had something to do with a job
which was never completed. If so, all family history is "A Coggeshall Job"
