For those people researching the RAINBIRD name, descendents of James and Lucy RAINBIRD who moved to Romford from Berners Roothing. It appears that their son John was no longer co-habiting with his wife and children in 1901. He was living with his parents but his wife Eliza was untracable as were his children. I still have not managed to find Sidney, his eldest son, but his wife and children were living in Penge, Kent. They are indexed as RAMBIRD, and they were living with a Blacksmith by the name of James MUIR.

This might explain why The 2 edlest sons paid £18 each to buy themselves out of the Essex Regiment in 1899, because their parents spilt up.

I have informed the PRO and we wait to see if it gets corrected.

Simon
