Hi All

I have a query regarding a death in the Union Workhouse, Colchester. From
West Bergholt Parish Records I found that my great great grandfather was
buried 15 May 1877. I purchased the death certificate which states that he
died in the Union Workhouse, Colchester, on 1 May 1877. Cause of death was
bronchitis.

At first I thought that I had the wrong certificate but after searching the
index again, this was the only death in this period.

Can anyone give me an idea why there was such a gap between the death and
burial? West Bergholt is roughly 5 miles from Colchester, so travelling
distance wouldn't have been a problem.

Also can anyone give me any info on the workhouse, of a site that I can
check - I realise that there is no workhouse now.
