Dear all,

Does anyone know the above street?
I have just checked a relation by the name of Sidney Gray, whose details I had
obtained from the 1881 census on Fiche. I had therefore assumed that when it described him as a night watchman resident at "Sewar works" in Wanstead that he was at a municipal sewage plant. However according to the CD-ROM, he was living in a caravan on wheels at "Sewar Works Lynton Road Premanent" (sic) in Wanstead.

So... Was he nightwatchman at a sewage works? Was there a firm actually called Sewar there? Or was he watching a hole in Lynton Road to make sure no-one stole it in the night? Whatever it was, a sorry state of affairs to end up in a caravan with a wife, two children and a teenage stepson!

Your thoughts much appreciated!

Adrian
