Sorry all for any cross postings, but it never hurts to try all
Looking for information on the family of Cecil Walter MILLS born circa 1905
- Witham UK. He came to Oz in 1925/6 He was apparently showing too much
interest in an older women in UK, so his parents sent him on a world tour.
He got to Perth and liked it, so stayed. He worked his way over to Sydney,
then hitched to Katoomba where his first job was a kitchen hand at the
Barlington. (A search of the net, I think this is the Burlington Palace ) He
later got a job as a painter working on the Katoomba Hospital - he was the
only painter who was a tradesman.
He was also a noted soccer goalie and just before sailing from England he
was invited to try out with a big English Soccer club - dont know which
one,but a rellie thinks it started with "H".
Cecils parents were Henry Richard MILLS and Sarah DEBENHAM - they lived
mainly in the Eastern Areas of England and at one time had 3 hotels. My
uncle thinks that one was the "George" - there is a George in Witham,UK that
fits with other bits I have picked up along the way. Does anyone have info
on these pubs, or publicans of the time (hopefully)
I have only discovered knowledge of one brother, Bill (William I presume)
who was older and in the army (in the UK I think)who had 3 kids - Bernard
(ended up in Sydney) June (ended up in New Zealand)and another male, who
owned a department store (in the UK I think - details I recieved are a bit
hazy), then ended up in Australia , buying a property in QLD, which he sold
when he found out he couldn't import Mongoose's to Australia. There may be
Cecil eventually married Gladys Amelia PRESTON at St Peters Church, Mt
Victoria New South Wales, on 29th September 1927, and they had 7 children
that I know of - Richard Beresford (Berry), Brian Michael(Mick), June and
Judy (twins),Jenny, Garry, and David. All of these are still living as far
as I know, except Mick, who died in 1999.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
