Dear Essex-UK subscribers,

As Listowner, I am posting the official word on irrelevent postings for the
Essex-UK mailing list :

Please remember that Essex-UK is a discussion area for anyone who has an
interest in Genealogy and Local History related to the county of Essex,
England. The aim of this list is to help each other by sharing information
and knowledge, advising where one can locate, or offer to help search
sources, in England & abroad. If everyone can try to avoid off-topic
messages then we can concentrate on those topics that the list was set-up
for.

I do not want to discourage anyone from posting to the list, but nor do I
want to discourage people from subscribing due to the quantity of posts (
There are still people that have to pay for all the e-mail that they
download and their phone calls to their ISP.)

I will not penalise anyone for posting messages that are off-topic, but I
will continue to send the occasional reminder to those who stray. Please
send any complaints about messages that are off-topic to me, the Listowner,
rather than the list itself. When required, I will contact the individual
(if I have not already done so.) I can be contacted at <
> or < >

Please send replies to the list if they might be of interest to other
subscribers. If a reply is of interest only to one person, then send it to
just to that person (if sending to that person fails then try posting it the
list.) Replies should quote just enough of the original message so that the
message is meaningful in its self. The portion of the message that you are
quoting should be marked in some way e.g. '>'s at the start of each line or
'<<' at the beginning and '>>' at the end.

When replying, please use meaningful subjects. If you are replying to a
message in the digest use the original subject (assuming that it is
meaningful) and not "Essex-UK-D Digest V02 #xxx" which is meaningless to the
majority of our subscribers. When starting a new thread don't use "Re:", as
that looks like a reply.

Regards
Elmo.
