Hi
I wanted to add something to this discussion. Not only did many children
die, but people did not always stay in the same parish, nor were they always
baptised in the parish in which they lived. I have one family who were
baptised at Hatfield heath, and this is on the IGI, but the parish records
( thanks to a lister) say ...of matching, and this is where the marriages,
burials and baptisms of other children are( on parish films). When following
this family further back, the father comes from neither of these parishes
and on the igi are marriages and baptisms for his father and grandfather
with (abt) next to them. i have looked through the parish films. They were
not born there, but other families of the same name are there, so if I
followed the IGi for anything other than an initial pointer I would have a
completely inaccurate tree.I dont live in the same parish as my parents, and
I am not related in any way to the other people in my parish with the same
last name, nor is my husband. Why assume that that was the case 200 years
ago? It might have been, but may not as well
