But if you already have access to the original parish records, why do
you need the IGI? The IGI can never give you more information than is
shown in the PRs and as you point out, the IGI can not be used to
compile a family tree because it doesn't include reliable death or
burial dates.

It seems to me that the best use of the IGI is as a direction
pointer--it can tell you which parish records you need to look at to
get the full picture but should never be used as a replacement for
PRs.
