As a new member I would like to post my interests. These lie in the SKEATS family.
I have a John SKEATS marrying a Lucy SEXTON (date unknown but about 1843). They had at least three children:
William SKEATS born 1844 - christened 9 Oct 1844 at Tendring - info from IGI. Believed to have died at sea or drowned anyway.
Tom SKEATS born about 1846 at Weeley - info from Census data
Samuel SKEATS born about 1853 at Weeley - info from Census data
It is believed from family legend that Lucy died and John remarried but I have no evidence of this.
I cannot prove John SKEATS' ancestry but from the IGI data one can postulate a family from Bradwell by the Sea:
Skaites, Thomas Mary Smith M 13/4/1809 Bradwell near the sea
Skaites, James Thomas/Mary C 27/6/1813 Bradwell near the sea
Skaites, John Thomas/Mary C 27/6/1813 Bradwell near the sea
Skaites, Mary Ann Thomas/Mary C 27/6/1813 Bradwell near the sea
Skaites, William Thomas/Mary C 22/11/1814 Bradwell near the sea
Skeats, William Sarah Ann Bridge M 14/10/1847 Bradwell
Skeats, Charles William/Sarah Ann C 28/1/1849 Bradwell
Scates, Famah (female) Thomas/Mary C 2/10/1816 Bradwell near the sea
Skeats, Hamer George Hewett M 18/9/1847 Bradwell
Skaites, Sarah Thomas/Mary C 23/11/1818 Bradwell near the sea
Skeats, Anne Thomas/Mary C 1/7/1821 Bradwell near the sea
Skeats, Ann Samuel Cutting M 18/9/1847 Bradwell
and this shows a John SKEATS christened 27 June 1813 (along with two other siblings!!) who would be the right age for my John SKEATS.
Can anyone check parish records for me?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
