Subject: FRIBANCE/WILKIN in Dagenham....please help if you can!
Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2001 01:01:50 EDT

Dear Listers,
Several months ago I posted a message regarding information about the WILKIN
family in Dagenham. From what I have been told William Wilkin's family were
living in this village in the early 1800's. As a result of a rescue William
made of a "running horse" he saved the life of a woman whose horse belonged
to a gentleman who apparently owned an estate in Montserrat which he named
the 'Dagenham Estates'.
I have not been able to find who this estate owner was but have been been
informed that this gentleman was so impressed with William that he sent him
to Montserrrat to run his estate. William Wilkin married Sarah Evelina
Tucker (from a well-know family from Bermuda) in 1851. I believe that one of
Sarah and William Wilkin's descendants was Jonathan Wilkin. Jonathan did
leave the West Indies and eventually married Mary Fribance (from Wiltshire)
and it is thought that this marriage took place in Gloucester. I have just
reviewed information about Mary Fribance and have discovered that one of her
brothers (Frank Fribance) lived in Dagenham for several years. This was
quite an exciting find and I am hoping that this is not simply a coincidence.
I would be most grateful if someone could assist me with any information
about WILKIN/FRIBANCE families from any available census information and
covering any year, of this area.
Many thanks.
Alannah
