Hallo all,
My information at present is limited to the following, passed on this
week by a cousin, with no indication of sources and few dates/ places.
William DRAKE (farmer and miller at Marks Tey and Romford) m. Susan
BURLES (date unknown). They had children who included William, Peter,
John, Joseph, Martha and Mary DRAKE.
Peter DRAKE married Matilda CARTER (b. 1832??) (her siblings were
Mary, Charles, David and others). Children of Matilda and Peter DRAKE
included Charles DRAKE (b.1859????)
Charles DRAKE married Lizzy WRAY and their children included Howard
DRAKE (died in South Africa), Bessie DRAKE (married William CUMBERS),
Mary Ann DRAKE who married Alfred JENNINGS, Emily Sarah DRAKE (married
John ANDREWS - I have more info re their descendents) and Ada DRAKE
(married James ROGERS).
Mary Ann and Alfred JENNINGS had offspring including Frederick Walter
JENNINGS (married Kitty BANKS, d. about 1924; children Muriel and
Kathleen), Arthur JENNINGS (went to Canada), William JENNINGS (married
Ethel BONNER, had daughter Sylvia), Edith JENNINGS (married Percy
MORLEY who died about 1978 - several children) and Victor JENNINGS
(several children).
I recall from my childhood that a relative of the name JENNINGS had a
connection with the 'News of the World' newsaper, and a very
straight-laced and devoutly religious great-aunt bought the paper
regularly on this basis!
I hope this may be of interest to someone on the list(s) and look
forward to hearing of any possible links.
