Hello,
Here is the index which I promised, of names from the book "The Great
English Earthquake" by Peter Haining. I have come across some rather
confusingly written pieces of information in the book; for example, on page
118: "Another school story was sent to me by Mrs Winifred SACH, which had
been told to her by her father, Mr Edward SACH." If she was Mrs (married),
how is it that her surname is still SACH? Then there is mention of a
parish called Summerhill, stated to be a mile and a half from Colchester;
although I lived in Colchester from my birth in 1949 until 1975, I have
never heard of such a parish. However, I wouldn't wish to detract from what
seems generally to be a good standard of research in the book, and I hope
this list helps someone. I have not included names of people like General
GORDON, and Prime Minister GLADSTONE) The form of the entries is as
follows: SURNAME TITLE FORENAMES PAGE ON WHICH NAME FIRST OCCURS
