Hi Maree,

Depending on the era you are speaking about, and when exactly your
ancestors migrated, it may be relevant to note that the railway directly
links South Woodham Ferrers with Burnham & Southminster. The succession of
stations on the line is (if I remember correctly - it's a while since I
took this train!)
1 - terminus Southminster
2 Burnham
3 Althorne
4 N Fambridge
5 S Woodham Ferrers
6 Wickford - change for Southend on Sea/London Liverpool street (unless you
are lucky enough to get one of the rare straight through trains!)

From Burnham to S Woodham would be around a 30 minute journey today by
train, or even less on a good day! By car today it's around a 20 minute
drive along some atrocious bends.

I don't know if Danbury was ever on the railway, but I don't think it is
now. I know Maldon used to be, and the line was subsequently closed.

Dear Maree & Stephen,

Woodham Ferrers is a delightful village a few miles
from me and has one of my favourite pubs, The Bell. Unfortunately I can
longer get there because I am now disabled and rely on other people to
me. Carry out the following instructions and you will get the map of it
up on
your screen.

1) Logon to <>;

2) Select the radio-button "Landranger Grid"

3) Enter " TQ797994" (without the quotes), then click on "Search".
A map of Woodham Ferrers will gradually unfold before your eyes --
outline red arrow will be pointing to the church (opposite "The Bell").
the zooming controls below the display on the right to bring in Danbury,
Burnham-on-Crouch and Southminster (and the New Town of South Woodham).

I checked this before sending and find that to show the other places
require, as expected you must zoom out, but in addition you must pan right
clicking on the green arrow on the RH edge of the display.

Good hunting .. .. .. Vivian J. Parkins (Mr) .. .. .. ESFH #5266
