Hello Essex 1000++

With the much appreciated help of Brian Parsons & "Check Essex Marriages at: http://www.tiptree.freeserve.co.uk/Boyds/Boydsindex.htm New entries added all the time!!"
I now have new information about several JAY marriages. I can identify the Essex locations given for all the marriages listed, except for the one which is given for the four marriages below. I have not been able to find the location described as
"Friends".

Year Names Location
1680 Rose JAY John PATTRICK Friends
1681 Samuel JAY Susannah LONDON Friends
1755 Mary JAY Edward RUSSELL Friends
1761 Frances JAY William FRANCIS Friends

Brian says that
"Friends" has come up on a number of occasions for other names he has looked up, and always assumed it was a place, although one of the few of which he also was not familiar. I had thought it might be a reference to marriages of Quakers or those of another faith. However, since, apparently, Boyd only dealt with marriages in the C of E, it is not known how he would come across a Quaker marriage unless it had been entered in a Parish Record of a C of E church. If that was the case, why didn't Boyd put the actual place of the marriage?
Does anyone know if there was a location called "Friends"? Or would the word have been used a substitution for a marriage location for some reason?
