Hi there Pat. A witness to a marriage, or a signature (ie on a Will, or adoption), had to be of sufficient age of intelligence to fully understand what he/she was a witness to - I have instances of a 13year old witness to an agreement to adopt out a sibling, and two separate instances of 12years of age children witnessing marriages, as well as a 14year old witnessing a signature on a Will.
