Hi all.
This is my first post to the Essex list.
Researching William POEL b c.1839 Romford Essex.
Married 1 Ellen LAMPRELL
2 Caroline McDERMOT (Also known as KING as she was
brought up by the KING family after the death of
her parents.)
Had 3 children from 1st Marraige, William, Ellen & Susannah.
Had 5? Children from 2nd Marriage, Arthur, Gertrude Elizabeth,(My GM)
Ethel, Cecelia Alice, and John Basil.
Unable to trace William's birth record but from Marriage Certs.,
fathers name also William.
1851 Romford Census shows Mother, Mary, sister Eliza and William.
Wm b circa 1839/40 @ Romford.
Mary a widow. Unable to trace death of Wm senior.
1861 Romford census shows Mary and William only.
On his marriage cert he is shown by the Registrar as POLE
although he spelled his surname correctly when signing POEL
Fortunately it is indexed in the GRO indexes under BOTH!!
In later life Wm became Mayor of Romford.
Any help appreciated.
