St Albrights (Stanway Workhouse in Colchester) is still standing and it is
offices used by Social Services. There is still a small morturary in the
grounds and I believe a chapel (unused). I worked there for three years. It
was commonly known as "The Spike" and I have asked several people why it was
called this but no-one seems to know why. I believe the records are kept at
the Essex
Records Office in Chelmsford.
