Hi Jim,
I have Milbanks in my family tree but in Hull in Yorkshire. I know that
there is an old established family in Essex. It is a very uncommon name
and so I notice when going through the GRO indexes that there are very
few family groupings - mine in Hull, the posh, moneyed and titled lot
further up the Yorkshire coast and a group in Essex, some of whom seem
to have migrated to London later on.
I do hope that we have some conection. I have quite a lot of raw
material on the Milbanks that I haven't yet been able to knit together
properly. I have details of a Milbank Essex connection with the Hull
Milbanks possibly in the same generation as my great-great-great-
grandfather John Milbank or maybe the generation before. Also one of
his children married a woman who was born in Witham - coincidence or
family connections with the area?
My Milbanks are as follows:
John Milbank born 1801 died 2 Aug 1844 in Hull.
Married Mary (Mayman?)
Children:
Mary Ann born about 1821
William born 1828
John born 1830
James born 1833 - my great-great-grandfather
Sarah born 1836
Henry born 1837
Eliza born 1840
Joseph
Mary Ann married William Morfitt
John married Elizabeth Robinson (born 1828 in *Witham*)
James married Mary Lazenby
Henry married Mary Jane Styles
I won't go on from there because these may be of no interest to you.
I wait with fingers crossed that there IS some connection between these
families.
