Subject: Which Village?
Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 17:42:05 +0200
Hello to all family historians.
Two villages - The first question is about Rank's Green, the second about
Writtle on whose behalf I make a boast, throw down a challenge!
Does anyone have any information on Rank's Green, Essex? It's north of the
Waltham's where my 18th ancestors are from and in the middle of an area of
16th and 17th Century RANKs with whom I'm yet to make a connection. I would
appreciate even the slightest tit-bit.
My other Essex names are POOLEs, WHITE of Writtle to around 1680 other
Writtle names BRIGHT, HOMESTEAD, HERRIDGE, WHITE (again) WESTWOOD and
HAWKES, THURLEY from the Walthams along with GIBSON; SMEES of Bocking
around 1770, WILLSON also Bocking. TURNER West Hanningfield.
Village 2 - Writtle
I wonder which Essex village has the most widespread recorded descendants?
I'd make a guess at Writtle. It must the leading contender for such a
distinction. They do such fine work in the local history archives there and
this is a chance now to thank them publicly.
