Jim,
Here is what I believe is more complete list of your ESSEX place names,
much in agreement with the previous posting from John. In the sequence you
listed them:-
WIGGBOROUGH - Great Wigborough & Little W. (near Mersea Island)
TOLSUNT KINGLYS - Toleshunt Knights (as below?) now spelled Tolleshunt
ROWLEDGE - Rowhedge (part of E. Donyland now edge of Colchester)
THORINGTON - Thorington now spelled Thorrington (near Great Bentley)
TORTHAM - Great Totham, Totham Hill, Little T. (between Witham &
Maldon)
TOLLSHUNT KNIGHTS - Tolleshunt Knights (as above) was spelled Toleshunt
E. DONYLAND - East Donyland (near Wivenhoe, Colchester)
BIGGOM - Sounds like Bigham [not in Essex] this one has me beat !!
Try Belchamp which is pronounced Belsham. or Boreham,
Burnham
If we forget the B start then complete errors Dedham or
Rainham
TELEGHAM - Tillingham (6m NE of Burnham on Crouch)
FINGRINGLOE - Fingringhoe (Near E. Donyland & Wivenhoe, Colchester)
WHELY - Weeley (between Colchester & Clacton)
LAICH - Leigh (now Leigh on Sea E. & part of Southend-on-Sea)
BUSBURY - Butsbury (between Ingatestone & Stock now Buttsbury)
not shown on many modern maps, there is still a chapel on
the outskirts of Ingatestone.
WARLY - Warley, Great W. (S. of Brentwood)
THORNTON. Thorndon [Hall] (West Horndon, Ingrave, SE Brentwood)
Sorry if the tabs don't match up - they rarely do completely.
Have another look at Biggom to see if you can read the writing differently
[ignore any printed transcripts]. Using my logic above and staying with a
fishing theme then Burnham must be top of the list. Leigh was famous for
its cockles.
Regards
Geoff
