Hello

With help from this List I have been able to establish that this family
branch came to Essex for a few years to work so I thought it was time
to post my interests:

TRORY and TROREY

However, these have often been misspelt in records as follows:

TROV(E)Y, TRORA, TREARY, DRUR(E)Y, DRORA, DREWRY, IVORY, PROVEY, etc.

Why there has been so much confusion over a 5-letter name I shall never
know. Nowadays we get TORY and TROY!

I'm researching the 1860's-1870's mostly, pehaps a bit later. The TRORYs
are a Norfolk family but this particular branch came via Cambridge and
were orphaned quite young and spread to Essex, to look for work I think,
before moving on to London.

Any news of the following would be appreciated especially Census Return
info to try and establish their movements so that I can pin down where
to look for any offspring births. During this period I would expect
these TRORYs to be the only ones in Essex but I may be mistaken.

Mary Ann TRORY b.1841 Cambridge married Mr WHITTRICK probably in
Southend area circa 1860's. I think she settled in Southend once married
and I believe she had children.

Elizabeth Sarah TRORY b.1843 Cambridge m. Harry Stevens 1873 London.
Worked and lived in Southend, I think!

Charles Edmund TRORY b.1844, 1846, 1848 or 1852 Hull or Hitchin, Herts.
This one is a bit of a mystery. His parents had four Charles/Edmunds and
we don't know which one he is. He kept changing his birthdate and
birthplace. Was an apprentice in Walthamstow c.1860-67 - I believe
Walthamstow was in Essex then and I may have to join another mailing
list.

William Frederick TRORY b.1850 Cambridge, worked in Prittlewell,
Southend in pubs and hotels.

Edmund TRORY b.1854 Norwich (mother died giving birth to him) unlikely
to find him in Essex but you never know.

If anyone ever comes across these ancestors then please drop me a line.
Thank you very much.

best wishes
Jan Trory
