Hi April
There were 2 big 'days' in the Battle of the Somme. On the first day, 1 July
1916, the British suffered 60,000 casualties, including 20,000 dead - the
bloodiest day in the history of the British Army. The final act was played
out between 13 and 18 November - my grandfather being killed on 13 November.
There are many websites such as
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Somme.
The CWGC site is normally very good at finding people, though you may have
to play around with initials. It sounds as though Karen can help you with
this.
Kind regards
George
