My HYDE family were catholic and came from CORK. In the early 1850's there
appears to be a big contingent of Irish in Wapping. This could well be
defined as STEPNEY (I don't know). I don't know how we define POPLAR but
for what it's worth this family were all baptised and married at St Mary &
St Michael's Church in Commercial Road - registration district of St George
in the East Middlesex. There were not many catholic churches but this one
seemed to cover quite a few of the parishes.
